October 2016
I'd always wanted to go to New York for my 40th birthday. I was
determined I wouldn't be spending it in my home town and I didn't want a big
party. I wanted to be away with my fella doing something different. After lots
of searching for cheap flights and good accommodation it suddenly dawned on me
that it was really expensive and in fact New York wasn't that great after all.
I wanted to tell people that I spent my 40th somewhere amazing and wonderful,
somewhere none of my friends had been.
So as I was browsing romantic places to go in December, I came
across Iceland, a place I had always wanted to go when I was in my twenties,
but had never got round to.
As the boyfriend got up I had already decided we were going to
Iceland and suggested this to him. He said ‘ok’ and went to see his Mum. On his
return two hours later, I’d booked the hotel and flights and everything was
confirmed!
I was so excited to tell people I was going to Iceland for my
birthday. I had to keep saying ‘Iceland the country, not the shop!’ just in
case people thought I was hanging out in the frozen food shop for my birthday
instead!
Of course people kept reminding me that I didn’t actually like the cold and so Iceland seemed like a very odd destination for me. However I love
the idea of snuggling with my man drinking hot chocolate and maybe a little
tipple of something stronger. I was keen to see the Northern Lights and visit
the famous Blue Lagoon.
