The 40th Birthday Day

4th December 2016

My birthday - I've reached the big 40. We'd booked the Blue Lagoon for later this evening which I was very excited about. However with just a 'happy birthday' from the fella and no card or present I was feeling a bit deflated, but I tried to put a smile on my face and appreciate that he had in fact paid for the Blue Lagoon trip so I guess that was his present. The day dragged a little as we waited for the time to meet the coach to take us to the Blue Lagoon and doubt about our relationship started to creep in. He'd made no effort at all for my birthday and in my mind I'm thinking things need to change, how much longer can I continue with this relationship when I don't feel like I have any solid commitment from him.

As we arrive at the Blue Lagoon I take my towel out and hand him the bag to get changed (I already had my swimsuit on under my clothes) and head off to the lockers. We meet and enter the beautifully warm pool, with just the glowing side lights in the darkness, we explore holding hands and again feeling connected him. We buy cider in a plastic cup from the Lagoon-side bar, and he pulls me to a quiet secluded area of the pool.
"Birthday's are not always about presents..." he begins. I start to say that it doesn't matter he hasn't got me a present.
"..its about surprises too..." and suddenly I notice he has a ring in his fingers..."will you marry me?"
I ask him if he's serious, before throwing my arms around him and saying "yes of course!"

For the rest of the evening I cant stop looking at my amazing ring. He says if its not right I can change it, but its perfect and the fact that he has chosen it all by himself makes it the most beautiful ring in the world.
